The National Cultural Heritage Act (R.A. 10066) was created to protect, preserve, conserve and promote the nation’s cultural heritage, its property and histories, and the ethnicity of local communities. It also aims to establish and strengthen cultural institutions and protect cultural workers and ensure their professional development and well-being.
This act also highlights the need for local government units to not only document traditional arts and crafts, but to further encourage and sustain traditional arts and crafts as sources of income to the community.
What is lacking is the initiative of the municipality of Pila to preserve not just the heritage houses, but other heritage sites too. As stated in the act, local government units should aid in the preservation of the heritage sites.
The preservation of these sites play roles in cultural aspects and economic development of the town. This petition will not just help the preservation of Pila’s heritage sites, but other heritage sites in the nation as well.
